A packed audience from the maritime industry attended an ISWAN event on 21 November 2013, at HMS President, in London, to hear Rose George, author of  ‘Deep Sea and Foreign Going’ (Ninety per cent of everything in the USA), in conversation with Michael Grey, the distinguished maritime journalist and former editor of Lloyds List.

Rose, who recently won the Mountbatten Maritime Award for best literary contribution, spoke about how she came to write about the maritime industry and her interest in seafarers and shipping. Among the issues discussed between Michael and Rose were the welfare of seafarers, environmental concerns, and the future of seafaring. Rose was congratulated by Captain Kuba Szymanski of InterManager for highlighting the plight of seafarers and bringing their key role to the attention of the general public.

Roger Harris, Executive Director of ISWAN, said "We were privileged to get both Rose and Michael to agree to do this event for us. It was an engaging and lively discussion that could have continued for a lot longer."

The event was organised by the International Seafarers Welfare and Assistance Network, sponsored by KVH Headland Media, and supported by Seafarers UK.

A recording of the event is below.
