ISWAN & NAMMA Organise Series of Events on Seafarers' Welfare at CMA Shipping 2014

ISWAN is jointly organising, with the North American Maritime Ministry Association (NAMMA), a series of events at a major shipping conference - CMA Shipping 2014 in Stamford Connecticut, USA, from 17 to 19 March 2014.

The first event is a seminar on 'Port Levies and Sustainable Welfare for Seafarers' on Monday 17 March 2014 at 9am. The seminar is a repeat of the successful event held in London in May last year. Again, the main speaker will be Dr Olivia Swift, the author of the research report. Other speakers include Capt. George McShea and Roger Harris, Executive Director, ISWAN.

On Tuesday 18 March at 4pm ISWAN is helping to convene another seminar, with NAMMA, on seafarers communications at sea. Speakers will include representatives from a maritime communications company and a shipping company.

On Wednesday 19 March ISWAN and NAMMA, with Crewtoo, are sponsoring a panel discussion at 11am – 'The Human Side of Shipping in Popular Media'. The session is being chaired by Clay Maitland, Managing Partner, International Registries, Inc. & Founding Chairman, NAMEPA. Speakers include Rose George, author and journalist, Ninety Percent of Everything and Per Gullestrup, Chair of the board of ISWAN and partner at Clipper (depicted in film "A Hi-jacking" which will be shown on the Tuesday evening).

Prior to the conference, ISWAN and NAMMA, with Crewtoo, are also sponsoring a lecture by Rose George in New York City on Sunday 16 March 2014. The lecture is entitled 'The Human Side of Global Shipping'. It is being organised and hosted by the Seafarers' and International House (123, E. 15th St, NYC). It starts at 2pm.

There is also a 3 mile 'Run with Rose' at 7am on Tuesday 18 March from the conference hotel. Rose is running the London Marathon for Seafarers UK on Sunday 13 April. You can sponsor Rose here.
